~Here's how it went down~
About two months ago, I decided to stop drinking coffee. In my usual extremist ways, I went cold turkey. I can’t help myself. When I make up my mind to do something, I do it.
I’ve been an avid consumer of cappuccinos and lattes for years and I loved every minute of it. Whether hot or ice cold, the rituals surrounding coffee such as smelling it brew, a hot cup at the start of the day, meeting a friend at a café, or treating myself to an iced coffee in the afternoon to give myself a little slice of heaven on a hectic day are ones that I adored. Coffee was my only source of caffeine as I’ve never been a tea drinker and haven’t had a soda in over a decade.
Why have I decided to quit coffee?
I noticed, however, in the few weeks before I became a former coffeeholic, that it wasn’t sitting well with me. I was getting frequent headaches, similar symptoms as those of a hangover, and felt, quite literally, sick to my stomach. My body was telling me that coffee was no longer resonating with me and asking me to stop.
Spiritually, although coffee revs us up and gives us a boost of energy, it actually lowers our vibration. I’ve been working so much on my mind, body, and soul with meditations, healings, my manifestations that my body was rejecting the low vibe of coffee.
The first day of being caffeine-free was great. No headaches. No cravings. I thought I was smoothing sailing and this little journey of mine would be a piece of cake. Unfortunately, I was terribly mistaken.
For the next eight days, I had a pounding headache. I was in my bed as much as I could possibly be with the curtains closed and the air conditioning cranked up. I couldn’t focus, felt dizzy, and honestly, miserable.
On day five, my legs started to spasm. I looked it up online and found that it’s actually a symptom of caffeine withdrawal. I couldn’t sleep for the next two nights because of it. It wasn’t painful but felt like rubber bands were expanding and collapsing in my legs at all times.
On day nine, I was in the clear. I woke up headache-free, spasm-free, and felt great. It’s been two months since I’ve had coffee, and while I miss it, I won’t go back.
Are you thinking of giving up coffee or is that something you would never do?
